There is no need for therapy in certain forms of oral leukoplakia since it resolves on its own. Of such situations, the best advice is to stay away from causes like cigarettes. If the root problem is tooth misalignment or ill-fitting dentures/crowns, oral leukoplakia can be handled by fixing these problems. If the oral leukoplakia biopsy report shows a malignant function, further diagnostic measures would be taken to ensure it is cancerous (or precancerous). If the condition is benign, the white spots can be removed using a scalpel by the dentist. Both patients must practice proper oral hygiene in all of these situations. Antiviral treatment is recommended if the oral leukoplakia is affected by an infectious agent such as HIV.
