What is an adverse drug event (ADE)?

A medication adverse effect (ADE) is when someone has a bad drug reaction.
Because of the ADEs, nearly 120,000 patients have to be hospitalized annually. Because of ADEs, adults 65 and older are twice as likely as other individuals to attend emergency departments.

The Symptoms
The symptoms of an ADE include:

  • Swelling of the ears, tongue and lips
  • Problems with breathing
  • Itching The Itching

  • Decreased blood pressure
  • Aches in the stomach or diarrhea
