Is Food addiction a disease?

Food addiction is a form of drug abuse condition marked by recurrent episodes of cravings for food. Binge eating disorder (BED) is now recognized as a separate psychiatric entity in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) that was just published. However, experts disagree about whether food addiction can be classified as a disorder since the line between starvation and food craving is blurry.

Furthermore, in the case of food addiction, there are no overt signs of intoxication or withdrawal, no overt disruption of normal daily functioning, and no risk of overdose or death.
