Food Poison: Treatment and Precaution

Restoration of lost body fluids and antibiotic medications to combat any bacterial infection are two crucial aspects in the treatment strategy for food poisoning. The patient may become extremely dehydrated as a result of the large amount of fluids and electrolytes lost through diarrhoea and vomiting. Antibiotics are only effective if food poisoning is caused by a bacterial infection.

If the infection is viral, such medications are useless. In reality, using antibiotics to treat a viral illness is harmful to the patient’s health. In addition to this, it is critical that the patient abstains from eating for a few hours and just consumes ice chips. He or she should avoid eating fatty, spicy, or heavy foods right after the therapy.

Consume non-greasy, easily digestible foods like curd and fresh fruits. The importance of adequate rest in the treatment process cannot be overstated. Food poisoning is usually spread by tainted meat. Make sure the meat (or poultry) is cooked to a minimum of 70-80 degrees Celsius to kill the bacteria. Food that has been left out should be properly chilled. It is recommended to drink bottled or boiling water while travelling. Keep your hands sanitized at all times. Raw fish and soft cheeses should be avoided.
